Lots of skateboard riding in Russia....because the cities have lots of concrete! Summer is hot in Moscow and kids riding skateboards can be heard behind, and among buildings.
AND stand-up paddling has been growing as a sport in the past decade. It is easier than the usual surfing since you stand on a wider board, and the paddle helps with balance.
The surfoards are 12 feet long and the paddle is long and canoe style. Instruction only takes about 10 minutes, and then you are off on your stand-up paddle surfing adventure!
Like regular surfing, stand paddle surfing started in Hawaii. Regular surfers have to paddle on their bellies on the board, paddle with their arms, and then catch a wave. Stand-up paddlers can do both....catch waves AND paddle on flat water.
It's easier to learn than regular surfing since you stand on a wider, thicker and more stable board. AND the long paddle helps with balance. More and more people are learning that they can handle a stand-up paddle board, and get hooked often, after only one try!
